To whom it may concern (and to those it doesn’t):

This is my first post here. I’m by no means new to blogging, but due to the inquisitiveness of certain people dear to me, I have decided to refrain from posting on those sites they visit. However, as a writer I still have the need to let out my thoughts in writing in a place where someone, anyone, may read them.

Today I am spurred to write by a decision I currently face. First, allow me to provide some background.

I am a college student in a town of about 30,000 people. Not too small, but it is about 45 minutes from the nearest city with malls, clubs, and other things I, your typical college student, enjoy. I have many friends here at the university, some I have know for years and others I have just met. My roommates are wonderful and we have some great times together. They support me but they can be very critical at times, and frequently they leave me out of their activities. I also have friends I enjoy more who attend the university down in the larger city. I spend almost every weekend there, simply because they are constantly there for me, always invite me along, and don’t criticize me on every detail.

So my dilemma is this: Should I switch schools? I’m just a freshman and won’t be taking any courses toward my major until next year anyway. They have my major at the other school, and their program is actually better. It’s farther away from home, but part of me strongly believes I will be happier there because I will be closer to those friends. The real problem is that these friends are older, and will be graduating and leaving the university before I do. I worry I will be left without a good core group of friends after they leave, because we are a close group and very selective on who joins the “inner circle.”

 So that’s what I needed to get out tonight, and I feel much better having done so. Thanks for listening. If you’ve got advice comments are welcome.
